Wind turbines crank out the power

Wind turbines Hawi and Mauna Kea

This week’s Sunday Stills challenge is ‘Drunk with .…’ I thought about a photo of my liquor cabinet, but settled instead for ‘Drunk with Power,’ a reasonable choice in these turbulent times.

Hawi Wind Farm began operations in 2006 and has 16 turbines churning out 10.56 MW. This power is supplied to Hawaii Electric Light Company, which runs the power grid on the island.

My interest in the wind farm is mostly visual. I like the patterns that the turbines make, and every once in a while the telescopes of Mauna Kea can be seen in the distance.

Very creative, Graham! We see views of wind turbines in the Sacramento delta (can wee some from my trailer window as I write this)! They make such an interesting visual and love the back drop of Mauna Kea! Hopefully next time we get the the BI we can see places like this. Hubby will want to find a way to windsurf 🙂 Thanks for your loyal support of SundayStills!

Actually, I might have to eat my words on this one. I guess Maui is the windsurfer mecca. Here the only place I found that rented windsurfers was on the west side at A Bay, but I’m not sure they do any more. Maybe putting an enquiry out onto one of the windsurfer forums would yield some results. Apologies to your husband!

I know many people are of a different opinion, but I’ve aways thought wind turbines are beautiful, in a modern, conscious kind of way. Great entry!
