This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Fresh.’ See more responses here.
A couple of miles before the end of the Akoni Pule Highway, at Pololu overlook, there’s a roadside food stand called Fresh Off The Grid. There’s no power at that end of the road, hence the ‘off the grid.’
I confess, I’ve never eaten there, in part because I seldom go to Pololu these days. It’s a bit overrun and the parking is terrible, though now they have stewards directing traffic and controlling the comings and goings, which is a big improvement.

But the food stand gets good reviews and seems to have a good selection of locally-grown food on the menu. It also has a nice variety of flowers around and a killer view of the ocean, plus mules and horses. What’s not to like.

What a beautiful place, the last photograph fascinated me. So beautiful dear Graham, Thank you, Love, nia

It is a beautiful spot. Those chairs are a great place to sit. The mules wait there, hoping for a handout.

Very pleasant, even if exactly what’s off the grid isn’t clear. The view is!

Off the grid means off the electrical grid here, so they’d use a generator or solar panels for power and probably gas cylinders for cooking. They’d also be using bottled water.

It means the same here, but you generally wouldn’t have a cafe off the grid in a town. It can also mean remote, which can imply alternative, so I was left wondering if it was the cage or the menu.

This is not in town but near the end of the road here so the power lines don’t go out that far. It’s not remote by Australian standards, but the Big Island has lots of places that don’t have power lines, sewers, or municipal water.

Those are mules but, like the horses, they bite!

I realised I wrote horses after I hit send 🙄
Mules can be nasty, luckily we don’t have many in Australai

Hope this comment sticks, last one didnt… what a great idea for Fresh, Graham. I can see why the area is crowded, looks popular. I bet the views are spectacular!

The views are tremendous along that coast. Sadly, Pololu became popular with the social media crowd
