I saw this nest hanging from the mock orange in the yard. I think it’s the nest of a Japanese White-eye and I’m hoping it’s an old one and didn’t tip any youngsters out to their fate.

Nothing says tropical quite like bananas with their huge leaves, upward pointing fruit, and large purple flowers.


Java Glory Vine (Clerodendrum speciosum) hails from Indonesia. I saw this one tumbling from a wall on a hike along the South Kohala Coast.

When it’s a bird! This Red Button Ginger certainly looked like a bird, and it was taking a bunch of ants along for the ride.

While walking through Hawi, I noticed that a new store has opened. I liked the sign out front as well as the rows of colorful potted flowers.
