Ramshot croton

This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Yellow Autumn or Leaves.’ (See more offerings here.)

These leaves might not be Autumnal, but they still feature a good portion of yellow. They’re ramshot crotons (Codiaeum variegatum) and I don’t know if this is why they got their name, but the shape of the leaves is reminiscent of rams’ horns.

Phalaenopsis violacea orchid

This orchid hails from Sumatra and other nearby islands. It’s notable for its small flowers, with a violet center fading to white. Some varieties, such as this one, also have green edging.

Dendrobium Jacquelyn Thomas orchid

Dendrobium Jacquelyn Thomas is a hybrid orchid. I’ve seen descriptions that date it to the 1970s and others that go back to 1949. Either way, it is a popular orchid with long lasting flowers.

Flowers at Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden

This week’s Friendly Friday challenge theme is ‘Floral.’ (See more responses here.) I thought a few photos from my last visit to Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden (with Terri from Second Wind Leisure Perspectives) would fit the bill.

The top photo is an orchid, Catatante ‘Pacific Sunspots.’ In the middle is another orchid, Wilsonara Aloha Sparks ‘Halloween.’ Below is a heliconia against a backdrop of tropical foliage.
