I came across this dragonfly cruising up and down a large, muddy puddle in such a regular fashion, it could have been on rails.

Mango flower beetle
This mango flower beetle was hanging out on the washing line. Probably wouldn’t be right at the top of a ‘cute creatures’ list.
New moo
This calf is probably half-an-hour old. Mom was busy cleaning him while he got some nourishment. Then he decided to try out his very wobbly legs while mom followed, still cleaning.
Newborn calves look like they’ve stepped out of a laundry detergent commercial – crisp and clean, and brighter than bright.
Cattle and pu’u
Cattle graze on dry grassland near Waimea. A pu’u is a hill or cinder cone in Hawaiian.
Rusty millipede
I came across this rusty millipede (Trigoniulus lumbricinus) while out on a walk. It was going at a good clip, at least until the terrain got a little tougher. The big question, of course, is what happens when a millipede trips?
Grasshopper on a tree heliotrope
This grasshopper was tucked away in the foliage of a tree heliotrope on the North Kohala coast. I think it’s a Schistocerca nitens.
Anole push ups
Green anoles clearly know the importance of fitness as they struggle for survival in the natural world. This one appears to be doing push ups on a ti leaf.
Abstracts: Stick insect should stick to sticks
Stick insect are beautifully camouflaged on twigs and small branches, but there are other surfaces with which they blend well. This one, though, might not be the best choice.
