The Numbers Game #58

Lava from Kilauea Volcano’s Pu’u O’o vent enters the ocean as if from a firehose.

The idea of The Numbers Game is to enter a number into the search bar of your computer and then post a selection of the photos that turn up. This week’s number is 179. Captions are on the photos. You can see more responses here.

It was a good week for what was turned up by the number. I was wondering why some of my older photos weren’t showing up, but found out it had to do with how I was searching.

Great shots, Graham. That lava hose is incredible. What a spectacular sight. I’m curious about the telescopes – can people use them or they’re high powered, remotely operated ones?
And of course all the photos between are an absolute pleasure. Thanks for your collection.

These days the telescopes are mostly remotely operated, but people do have to go up there to perform maintenance and the like. I was lucky to see the lava hose. It was gone the next day.
