Back in the day, I used to make home brewed beer. I needed bottles to put the beer in and that required emptying bottles that formerly held beer. Heineken was one of the many brands that were pressed into service. But there was one problem. Those green bottles were made with thinner glass and had a tendency to blow up under the pressure of my home brew.
I kept my beer brewing bottles in my wardrobe and the Heineken bottles’ volatility meant that my clothes acquired a certain aroma. It’s probably why I wasn’t more successful in the job I had at that time!
None of this has anything to do with the sign of course, but any time I see the Heineken name I immediately associate it with those days.
This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Vivid.’ See more responses here.
I took the opportunity to revisit the murals surrounding a courtyard in downtown Hawi. I’ve posted a couple of inmages before, here and here, but there are others that certainly can be described as vivid.
The bottom one is one I featured a couple of years ago (here) as a work in progress. I’m still not sure whether this is the finished article. I suspect some of those white areas on the right will get more detail one of these days.

When I was walking along the coast toward Hapuna Beach recently (post here) I came around one corner of the trail and saw this top photo. Luckily, it was broad daylight, because if it was dark, I would have screamed and run.
This head had a little friend, and the two of them reminded me of a British sci-fi horror movie from the 60s called Village of the Damned.
It was a peculiar scene, not just because of the subjects, but because these sculptures, along with a couple of others, are only visible from the trail. And they can’t be approached because there are some old Hawaiian ruins in this area. It’s like they’ve been banished into this twilight zone and they’re not happy about it!

This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Mysterious.’ See more responses here.
I took these photos, through the window of a local gallery, for last week’s ‘Glass’ theme. When I got home and looked at the images, I wasn’t exactly sure whether they were glass or some kind of plastic.
The more I looked at them, the more I thought they looked like UFOs. Then I saw the figures in each one and I started to wonder what was going on in this so-called gallery. Something mysterious, no doubt.
Perhaps I should call the FBI, or maybe the Men in Black!
On the South Kohala coast, in front of the Hilton resort, there are several statues, including this Buddha statue. There are a couple of benches facing the statue for those who want to spend some time in quiet contemplation, but one could easily sit the other way, facing out to sea, and feel equally blessed.
