A view of the coast at Lapakahi State Historical Park.

A rainbow and Mahukona Lighthouse seen from the water.

A band of cloud, some calm water, and a rainbow to set it all off.

Our big storm of a couple of weeks ago moved down from the northwest, from Kauai through Oahu and Maui to the Big Island. This view was taken one morning when the storm had enveloped Maui but not yet reached us. It wasn’t until late that same afternoon that the skies changed from blue to gray and black and the deluge began.

Hawaii is the Rainbow State and North Kohala is a great place to see them, given its mix of rain and sunshine. I saw this rainbow as I neared home and was moved to pull over and take photos.

A couple of days ago, when I got out of the water, I saw this rainbow had filled in behind me.

Why settle for one rainbow when you can have two?
