The black sand beach at Keawaiki is seldom crowded. There’s a half mile walk to ge there and there are no facilities of any kind. This weeds out a lot of people! The beach is quite steep and if there’s much surf, it’s not great for swimming. But on a day like this it’s a lovely spot. This marked the end of hike I did, which hopefully I will get posted soon.

A couple of A’ama Crabs, the one much bigger than the other, skitter past each other in the wave-washed shallows. Meanwhile, the Helmet Urchins were going nowhere.

Lahuipua’a Fishpond is the largest of several fishponds in Kalāhuipua’a Historical Park, on the grounds of Mauna Lani Resort. These ponds were where fish were raised for feeding the Hawaiian ali’i (royalty). The ponds are still used for raising fish in the traditional manner.
I saw this boat off Lapakahi State Historical Park. It was not in danger from the rocks, but that area has fishing restrictions, so I hope he was following the rules.
