My morning plunge

Morning coffee being made with a French press

This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Plunge!’ See more responses here.

My morning plunge is not a dip in the water, but making coffee in a French press. Fresh ground coffee in the carafe, fill with hot water, and let it sit for four minutes. Then push the plunger down, pour the coffee, and add half and half. And another day gets underway!

Hawi

This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘In Your Town.’ See more responses here.

I’ve run a couple of Hawi scenes already this past week (here and here) and another earlier in this year (here). But here are a few more scenes from Hawi town.

Kohala Coffee Mill is a social meeting place with coffee, excellent local ice cream, and good food.

Across the street, the Bamboo Restaurant is a popular local restaurant which hosted farmers market stalls during the Covid times (I know, they’re still going on.).

The banyan trees are where the farmers market used to be held every Saturday, and is a popular rendezvous spot. Everyone knows where they are.

Across from the banyans is Nakahara Store, a small local grocery that’s been around a long time.

Hawi is an arty place and some arty types express themselves on their vehicles!

Hawi murals

This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Vivid.’ See more responses here.

I took the opportunity to revisit the murals surrounding a courtyard in downtown Hawi. I’ve posted a couple of inmages before, here and here, but there are others that certainly can be described as vivid.

The bottom one is one I featured a couple of years ago (here) as a work in progress. I’m still not sure whether this is the finished article. I suspect some of those white areas on the right will get more detail one of these days.

How now brown cow?

A cow near Upolu, Hawaii

This week’s Sunday Stills Monthly Color Challenge is ‘Leather (shades of brown).’ See more responses here.

This seemed an appropriate topic for some cattle photos, taken on my walks at Upolu and Pu’u Wa’a Wa’a. And, yes, not all of them are cows!

A walk from Spencer Beach Park to Hapuna

On the Ala Kahakai Trail between Spencer Beach Park and Hapuna
The beach at Mauna Kea Resort.

A few days ago, I posted here an image from a recent walk along the coast to Hapuna beach. I thought I’d post more photos from that walk for this week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme of ‘Paths and Trails’ (more responses here), and for Becky’s Squares theme of “Walking” (more responses here).

The trail crosses beaches large and small.

Of course, besides the views I was on the alert for anything moving on the beach or in the air.

Other parts pass through trees and other vegetation.

UFOs

This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Mysterious.’ See more responses here.

I took these photos, through the window of a local gallery, for last week’s ‘Glass’ theme. When I got home and looked at the images, I wasn’t exactly sure whether they were glass or some kind of plastic.

The more I looked at them, the more I thought they looked like UFOs. Then I saw the figures in each one and I started to wonder what was going on in this so-called gallery. Something mysterious, no doubt.

Perhaps I should call the FBI, or maybe the Men in Black!
