The Jodo Mission in Hawi is getting ready to celebrate Children’s Day. This traditional Japanese holiday was known as Boy’s Days, celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month, while Girl’s Day was celebrated on March 3, the third day of the third month. These days, there’s a push to celebrate both as Children’s Day on May 5th. One of the features is the flying of carp-shaped windsocks. There will also be gifts and special treats.
The windsock photo is posted for Bushboy’s Last on the Card challenge. See more responses here.

This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘National Kids and Pets Day.’ See more responses here. Wild pigs are as close as I get to having a pet these days, though an extra ’s’ might make a better description.

I’m never quite sure what’s appropriate for Earth Day, but I figure nature, farming and renewable energy fit the bill, so here are some photos from a recent walk in the neighborhood.

I saw this bench, one of several with a similar design, outside the waiting room featured in yesterday’s post. I wondered if there was some significance in the layout of the wooden pieces, but couldn’t find any. But I thought the design was both practical and attractive, even if the view wasn’t exactly the best.
Posted for Jude’s Bench Challenge. See more here.
