I like the effect caused by a recent full moon rising behind the hedge at the back of the house.

This juvenile Yellow-billed Cardinal took full advantage this popular pool of water being temporarily unoccupied to have a thorough bath.







I was up at a ranch on Kohala Mountain Road and the place boasted an impressive 180° view, from Maui to Hualalai. This is the northern part of that view.
The downside of the location is that the wind can blow like crazy. During the big windstorm of a few months ago, they registered a wind speed of 83 mph!

Sea urchins can have a wide variety of looks as illustrated by these two I saw on a recent swim. That’s a Collector Urchin in front and a Red Pencil Urchin behind it.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to post for this until I went to the dentist and found this in the waiting room. Not sure the sign is in the holiday spirit though!



A Gold Dust Day Gecko on a shiny counter. This is one of my rare phone photos. My phone camera isn’t the greatest by any means, but it was all I had for this one, and I wanted to capture the reflection and the gecko’s inquisitive nature.

There’s an area where I swim where large numbers of Pyramid Butterflyfishes could always be seen. Over the years their numbers have diminished or they’ve moved elsewhere. But this year there has been something of a resurgence in that area. That’s where I saw these two.
